Everything began well, but while everyone was asleep, an enemy came and secretly sowed weeds among the wheat before leaving. As time passed, both the wheat and the weeds began to grow together. When the servants noticed the weeds, they were surprised and asked their master, "Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?" Every Sunday after church, we gather together to study God's Word, share our thoughts, ask questions, and learn from one another. It is one of my favorite parts of the week because everyone has the opportunity to contribute, be corrected, and grow in their understanding of Scripture. During our discussion, we studied Mark 10:17-27, the story of the rich young ruler. As we discussed the passage, a question arose that completely altered my perspective on the text. It made me realize that idolatry is not always as obvious as a carved image or a golden statue. Sometimes the greatest idols are the ones hidden deep within our hearts.
