Conviction Is Not Condemnation 💫
Memory verse: "When He comes, He will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment"~ John 16:8.
Introduction💨
"Conviction" and "judgment" are two words that sound similar, but they feel very different. Many times we confuse one for the other. Sometimes, we say, "Don't judge me," when in reality, the Holy Spirit is convicting us. Other times, people speak harshly and call it "correction," when it is actually condemnation. Conviction comes from God. Judgment, when done wrongly, often comes from pride.
The Holy spirit convicts not us to shame us, but to restore us. He points out sin not to destroy us, but to draw us closer to Christ. Conviction produces repentance and peace. Judgment produces repentance defensiveness and distance.
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
~Romans 8:1
A Relatable Example
Imagine you post something online, maybe a video, maybe a picture, maybe a comment, and deep down you know it does not fully align with your faith. Nobody says anything. Nobody corrects you. But later that night, you feel uneasy. Not embarrassed. Not ashamed but just unsettled. That is conviction. Now imagine someone comments publicly, "Christians should not act like this. You are fake". That feeling of being attacked, exposed,or shamed? That is judgment. Conviction whispers and calls you higher. Judgment shouts and tries to push you down. One draws you closer to God. The other often pushes you away.
Conclusion💜
As believers, we must learn to recognize the difference between conviction and judgment. One is sent to restore us. The other often seeks to expose or elevate self. Conviction is proof that God still cares enough to correct us. It is not rejection. It is the Holy Spirit lovingly pointing us back to the right path. When we feel conviction, it is not a sign to run from God, but a reason to run toward Him. Judgments on the other hand reminds us to check our hearts. Are we correcting in love, or speaking from pride? Are we trying to restore,or simply trying to prove a point?
Before we say," Don't judge me", we should ask, "Is this conviction?" And before we correct someone , we should ask, "Am i doing this in love?"
