When Shame Keeps You from God😣
🌿 Memory Verse: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." ~ 1 John 1:9
One of the greatest lies the enemy tells us after we sin is that we are too far gone to come back to God. He wants us to dwell in shame until we begin to hide from the very One who can restore us. But Scripture paints a different picture. Proverbs 24:16 says, "For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again." Notice that the verse does not say the righteous never fall. It acknowledges that even those who love God will stumble. The difference is that they do not remain on the ground. They get back up, not because they are strong, but because God's grace is greater than their failures.
If you have sinned, don't let shame convince you to stay away from God. Run to Him, confess your sin, receive His forgiveness, and allow Him to restore you. The Father is not waiting to reject you; He is inviting you to return. Conviction says, "You sinned. Come back to the Father." Condemnation says, "You sinned. Stay away from God." One leads to repentance; the other leads to hiding.
After Adam and Eve sinned, they didn't run to God; they hid from Him. They covered themselves with fig leaves because they were ashamed. Yet God came looking for them. That shows God's heart. Even after sin entered the world, God pursued them. Peter denied Jesus three times. Judas betrayed Jesus. Both men failed Jesus, but both experienced remorse. But Peter returned to Jesus and was restored. Judas was overwhelmed by despair and instead never returned. The difference wasn't that Peter sinned less. It was where each man took his failure.
Conclusion 💜
If shame has been keeping you away from God, remember this: Jesus already knows what you did. The cross was never meant for perfect people; it was meant for sinners who are willing to come back to Him. Don't let your failure become the reason you stay away from the only One who can restore you.
"Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light." ~ Micah 7:8
